Good evening everyone……..
It gives me great pleasure on behalf of Avis Budget Group to be presenting this year’s Outstanding Contribution Award, and honouring an individual who has made a significant contribution to the industry in a career spanning more than three decades.
Now this year’s award is a little different… Unlike in previous years, our winner has never been on the payroll of any of the industry’s biggest companies, and you would be hard-pushed to find an interview with them or see them on a panel at a travel industry event.
However, their work is always of the highest quality and is woven into the fabric of the industry in a way few others can match.
This year’s recipient began their career in 1982, and in the years since has worked with the likes of P&O Cruises, Cunard, and Tui – although those three travel giants really only scratch the surface of this person’s connections.
Whether you are picking up a travel brochure – or even a copy of Travel Weekly - you will have seen the results of their work more than you realise.
If I were to expand their career history more to say they have come into contact not just with every major brand and leader of the UK travel industry, but also the likes of the Duchess of Cambridge and even Her Majesty the Queen, you may start to identify who I’m talking about.
The only things potentially more recognisable than our winner’s photographs are his flowing locks, and his flamboyant choice of shirts…
Tonight we honour an individual whose impactful and instantly recognisable photography has formed the narrative of the travel industry… an individual whose colourful, warm and welcoming demeanour has made him a friend to so many of us in the room this evening.
